 Shibadonggou Oil Mill

Shibadonggou Oil Mill, originating from the removal of a village of Tu – Shibadonggou in Songduo Township, Huzhu County, is an old oil mill preserved most completely in Huzhu County so far. It represents traditional oil expression process. People living on the plateau mainly eat colza oil, and the colza oil is manufactured in oil mills. Generally, an oil mill is built beside a water mill or nearby, as oilseeds need to be ground into powder in the water mill before oil expression and then steamed on the stove in the oil mill. Wrap the oil seed powder with kalimeris indica and dryland willow ropes, and then put it under thick logs to squeeze savory oil out. The seed residue after oil expression is called seed dreg, which is good fodder for stocks. Persons mastering the oil expression technique in oil mills are called "oil doctors". This century-old oil mill can demonstrate traditional oil expression process in an all-round way, and the colza oil expressed with traditional technique features clear and pure color and mellow taste.
